In Our Grow to Give Program
In 2011, Lennard Ag initiated Grow to Give to supply as much as 1.6 million pounds of potatoes to local and regional food pantries. Working with partners, the Grow to Give program provided potatoes from acreage in southern Michigan to provide nutritious potatoes. Potatoes from the program traveled from ten to more than 600 miles to help feed those in need.
This year, Oak Prairie Farms of Bronson, Michigan has generously donated the land for again for Grow to Gives second year. We are very grateful for this partnership with Oak Prairie and are hoping to create more partnerships with area businesses and farms. Plans show that planting of the field will take place around May 9. "Shared Resources Feeding Communities" is what Grow to Give is all about. Together we can Grow to Give one million pounds of potatoes for those in need.
We are excited for the start of our program this year. The field was planted a few weeks ago and the field is showing a solid and healthy emergence of spouts. We would like to thank all our partners that have joined us this year, it is with their help that we are able to grow 1 million pounds of potatoes to feed those in need this year. Together we can Grow to Give.
Fernando our senior agronomist has estimated the harvest date for the Grow to Give field to be October 1st this year, just in time to offer families in need healthy and nutritious potatoes for the Thanksgiving holiday.
